A família de Suricatas (Suricata suricatta) do Zoológico aumentou! No dia 7 de setembro, os quatro filhotes completaram um mês de vida e, após o exame de sexagem, chegou o momento de “batizá-los”. O quarteto composto por uma fêmea e três machos nasceu com cerca de 30g cada um, com os olhos fechados que se abriram por volta da segunda semana de vida. Desde o nascimento, os filhotes são mantidos no núcleo familiar de nove membros, entre mãe, pai e irmãos mais velhos.
Todos os indivíduos ajudam nos cuidados diários com os filhotes, especialmente os experientes pais “John e Juliana”, oriundos de uma instituição internacional. Durante a fase inicial de desenvolvimento dos filhotes, toda a família permaneceu em área de bastidores para um melhor acompanhamento da equipe técnica. Após avaliação clínica satisfatória realizada recentemente por veterinários, foram transferidos para a área de exposição, ocupando o recinto vizinho ao território das girafas para que os visitantes possam conhecê-los.
No período de 24 de setembro a 10 de outubro, o público será convidado a participar de uma votação online no website institucional www.zoologico.com.br para ajudar o Zoo a “batizar” os quatro filhotes. A divulgação do resultado não poderia ocorrer em uma data melhor: 12 de outubro, Dia das Crianças!
Entre as opções dos machos estão: Bakari (o que tem sucesso); Azize (precioso); Kamau (guerreiro); Ekom (aquele que é forte); Kendi (o amado) e Daren (nascido na noite). Para a fêmea a escolha fica entre Zaila (feminina) e Núbia (perfeita como ouro).
