A árvore mais antiga de São Paulo que já foi passagem de mercadores, soldados, viajantes e até de Imperador D. Pedro I, passou por um processo de revitalização e foi entregue novamente a população. Localizada na altura do número 515 da Estrada das Lágrimas, a Ficus organensis, que dá nome à Estrada das Lágrimas, teve seu berço revitalizado pela Prefeitura de São Paulo, por meio da Subprefeitura Ipiranga. Em seu tronco, mães chorosas, pais apreensivos e esposas angustiadas, encostaram para ver seus filhos e maridos sumirem estrada adentro rumo à Guerra do Paraguai.
A árvore cuja idade é mais antiga que a própria história da Independência do Brasil está em uma área de 100 m² na Praça Figueira das Lágrimas que recebeu a instalação de banco, refletores, pintura, graffiti e plantios, valorizando, assim, a preservação do patrimônio histórico. Vale destacar que as placas de bronze com poemas sobre a árvore foram reproduzidas na nova praça.
Hoje inúmeras pessoas passam diante dela todos os dias, seja caminhando ou seja em algum meio de transporte para irem aos seus variados destinos e a árvore continua por ali, como que saudando a todos.
Ainda este ano a Figueira passará por estudos objetivando sua manutenção fitossanitária. Vale destacar que, em 2019, suas raízes foram objeto de análise pelo Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas.
“Historiadores afirmam que Dom Pedro I descansou sob a sombra da figueira. Entregamos à população a possibilidade de interagir com a história viva do Ipiranga e do Brasil. É mais uma mostra de como a gestão do prefeito Bruno Covas se preocupa com a aproximação do bicentenário da Independência”, destacou Caio Luz, subprefeito do Ipiranga.
A Subprefeitura Ipiranga publicou um Chamamento Público, no Diário Oficial, objetivando Termo de Cooperação com representantes da sociedade civil, interessados em realizar a conservação, limpeza e manutenção da praça.
