“I Love Lucy” foi o programa mais assistido da televisão americana em quatro de suas seis temporadas: foi ao ar de 15 de outubro de 1951 a 1º de abril de 1960. O público brasileiro também se apaixonou pelas aventuras cômicas da personagem Lucy (Lucille Ball).
Apesar de ter originalmente acabado em 1957, o programa continuou no ar por mais três temporadas no formato de especiais de uma hora, exibidos de 1957 a 1960.
A primeira exibição da série no Brasil aconteceu na extinta Rede Tupi, entre 1958 e 1979. A TV Gazeta de São Paulo, a Rede Bandeirantes, a TV Cultura, o SBT e o canal Multishow também já exibiram o sitcom.
A série conta a história do casal Lucy e Ricky (Desi Arnaz). Ele é um chefe de orquestra cubano e ela é uma dona de casa, que sonha em brilhar no mundo artístico, entrando em situações inusitadas para alcançar seu objetivo. Todos os episódios são focados na personagem da atriz Lucille Ball, uma dona de casa nada convencional que só se mete em confusões ao lado do marido Ricky e dos vizinhos, Fred (William Frawley) e Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance).
Pouca gente sabe, mas em 2013 a rede americana CBS, que produziu e exibiu nos Estados Unidos “I Love Lucy”, colorizou com auxílio da tecnologia alguns episódios da série e exibiu como especial de Natal no final daquele ano. O sucesso foi tão grande, que a emissora prometeu colorizar mais episódios e voltar a exibi-los, mas até hoje ainda não se tem notícias que isso será feito. Quem sabe os brasileiros também tenham a oportunidade de conferir como ficou. É esperar para ver!
