Produzida e exibida pela primeira vez no SBT entre novembro de 1998 e maio de 1999, a novela “Pérola Negra” foi reprisada pela última vez nas tardes da emissora em 2015. A novela escrita por Enrique Torres e protagonizada por Patrícia de Sabrit e Dalton Vigh já foi exibida no canal de Silvio Santos pelo menos em mais três oportunidades, nos anos de 1998, 2004 e 2010.
Além de Patrícia de Sabrit e Dalton Vigh, também estavam no elenco Vanusa Splindler, Fábio Cardoso e Martha Mellinger, entre outros. Mas o destaque ficou mesmo para as atuações de Patrícia de Sabrit e Dalton Vigh, casal de protagonistas da trama.
O enredo da novela girava em torno de uma mulher misteriosa que abandona uma menina recém-nascida, fruto de um amor proibido, em uma conceituada escola exclusiva para moças. Junto com o bebê, ela entrega para Miss Helen (Marta Mellinger), a mantenedora da instituição, um colar que contém 22 pérolas negras valiosas. Cada pérola do colar pagaria um ano de vida da menina no internato até que ela completasse 21 anos. Uma das pérolas foi entregue à moça quando ela deixou a escola. A criança foi registrada como Pérola Marques (Patrícia de Sabrit) e cresce com a companhia da grande amiga Eva (Vanusa Splindler), uma menina que chegou ao internato aos 8 anos, depois da morte de seus pais, por imposição da avó, Rosália Pacheco Oliveira (Maximira Figueiredo). Eva era herdeira de uma fortuna que incluía uma indústria de cosméticos. A avó Rosália odiava a nora e passou todo o seu ódio para a neta, por isso decidiu levá-la para o colégio interno.
Anos mais tarde, Eva (Vanusa Splindler), uma bela jovem prestes a completar 20 anos, é seduzida por Tomás Álvares Toledo (Dalton Vigh) e fica grávida. O rapaz não sabe da gravidez, que é mantida em sigilo dentro do internato para evitar um escândalo. Quando o bebê nasce, é entregue por Miss Helen aos caseiros da escola em troca de um pagamento generoso. Ninguém fora da escola sabia quem é a verdadeira mãe do menino que acabara de nascer.
Amigas inseparáveis, Pérola e Eva prometeram uma para a outra que cuidarão do menino assim que deixarem o internato, quando elas completarem 21 anos. Depois de alguns meses, Eva recebe a notícia da morte de seu avô Carlos Pacheco Oliveira (Rildo Gonçalves). Patriarca da família, ele, para se vingar de Rosália, que o traiu no passado, deixa tudo para a neta. Herdeira e com 21 anos completos, Eva decide procurar sua família e assumir os seus bens, levando junto a grande amiga Pérola. Mas, no percurso até a casa dos Pacheco Oliveira, um acidente de carro provoca a morte de Eva. Pérola sobrevive e, no hospital, é confundida com a amiga. Pérola decide, então, assumir a identidade de Eva para recuperar o “seu filho” e cumprir a promessa de cuidar da criança. Ao chegar na casa dos Pacheco Oliveira, Pérola, a partir de agora com a identidade de Eva, se depara com a hostilidade de algumas pessoas, entre elas Malvina (Cibele Larrama), namorada de Tomás, o homem que seduziu Eva.
O tempo passa e Eva (na verdade Pérola), determinada, toma o controle da firma de cosméticos da família, garantindo a segurança de seu “filho” Carlinhos, mesmo sem ninguém saber que ela não é a mãe do menino.
Uma trama bem “água com açúcar” que conquistou os fãs dos dramalhões que a emissora exibe.
