A expansão da Linha 2-Verde segue em ritmo acekerado em 17 frentes de trabalho entre Vila Prudente e Penha. No fim de semana, o córrego do Rincão, na Penha, voltou ao seu curso normal, já na nova galeria construída pelo Metrô, após ter sido desviado provisoriamente para a realização das obras de ampliação da Linha 2-Verde.
Uma das maiores obras de engenharia do Brasil, a expansão da Linha 2-Verde impressiona, vai utilizar cerca de 870 mil metros cúbicos de concreto (o equivalente a 62 edifícios Itália), 64 mil toneladas de aço (ou 9 torres Eiffel), 4,7 milhões de metros cúbicos de escavação (o mesmo que 9 mil piscinas olímpicas) e 170 mil metros quadrados de área construída (22 campos do estádio do Morumbi).
A Linha 2-Verde, de Vila Madalena a Penha, terá 23 km (a mais extensa do Metrô) e 22 estações, com capacidade para transportar mais de 1,5 milhão de pessoas por dia. A chegada do Metrô nesta região da zona leste vai trazer uma redução de 1 hora no tempo médio de viagem. Milhares de moradores do Ipiranga serão beneficiados com a ampliação da Linha2-Verde, principalmente no acesso a diversos bairros da Zona Leste. No futuro, segundo cronograma ainda não definido pela companhia do metropolitano, haverá conexão com a linha que dá acesso ao Aeroporto de Cumbica.
