Para os turistas de primeira viagem, a dica é não deixar de comer de jeito nenhum uma queijada e um “travesseiro de Sintra”. Para quem não sabe, o “travesseiro de Sintra” é um folhado maravilhoso recheado com amêndoas trituradas, uma iguaria que agrada todos os paladares. Comece o passeio andando a pé pela vila; suba a serra de charrete; aprecie a vista do Palácio da Pena e maravilhe-se!
Logo ao chegar o turista vê na praça principal o Palácio da Vila, com suas duas chaminés cônicas. Guarde essa imagem na sua mente. Ela servirá de ponto de referência para você voltar dos passeios sem se perder. O Palácio da Vila foi construído no final do Século XIV e serviu de estância de veraneio de muitos reis ao longo da História de Portugal. Cada sala é decorada de forma diferente e tem uma história para contar. Seu interior é uma surpresa, pois é um verdadeiro museu do azulejo, com aplicações desde o Século XVI, do início da sua utilização em Portugal.
Já o Palácio e Quinta da Regaleira, datado do Século XIX, parece ser mais antigo, mas tem uma decoração que impressiona por ser rica em simbologia maçônica. Por lá se pode apreciar o Poço Iniciático, uma galeria subterrânea com uma escadaria em espiral, sustentada por colunas esculpidas, por onde se desce até ao fundo do poço. O poço recebeu esse nome porque se acredita que era usado em rituais de iniciação à maçonaria.
Muito perto da entrada da Regaleira, fica Seteais, um palácio do Século XVIII atualmente transformado em hotel. Vale a pena entrar nos jardins e ir até ao miradouro, de onde se vê o Palácio da Pena, o Castelo dos Mouros e o mar ao longe.
Para almoçar, escolha um dos inúmeros restaurantes do local, ou faça um piquenique no Parque dos Castanheiros, com certeza será inesquecível.
Após o almoço se aventure em subir a serra e descobrir os recantos de uma paisagem que é Patrimônio Mundial da Humanidade.
Antes de entrar no refúgio botânico do Parque da Pena, passe pelo Chalet da Condessa D’Edla e suba ao imperdível Castelo dos Mouros. O local é um testemunho da presença islâmica na região, construído entre os Séculos VIII e IX e ampliado depois da Reconquista.
Mas você vai se impressionar mesmo com a vista que terá do topo o Palácio Pena, um dos palácios mais românticos de Portugal. A construção foi, na verdade, um capricho de D. Fernando II que, em meados do Século XIX, transformou um antigo mosteiro no colorido e rebuscado palácio, em homenagem a sua amada D. Maria II. Os ambientes estão recuperados fielmente, como se a Corte ainda habitasse a moradia. A mesa de jantar, por exemplo, se encontra posta com pães de verdade sobre os pratos.
Em Sintra merece destaques o Parque de Monserrate, com o seu exótico palácio neogótico, e o Convento dos Capuchos, construído no Século XVI utilizando cortiça como revestimento dos pequenos espaços, seguindo os preceitos de pobreza da Ordem de São Francisco de Assis, contrastando com os outros palácios do local. A dois quilômetros do convento, fica a Peninha, um dos pontos mais altos da serra e, já a caminho da costa, vale a pena conhecer o Museu Arqueológico de São Miguel de Odrinhas, com uma importante coleção epigráfica com mais de dois mil anos.
Entre Sintra e Lisboa, seguindo pelo IC-19, vale a pena parar no Palácio Nacional de Queluz, suntuoso palácio do Século XVIII em estilo “rocaille”.
