A falta de manutenção de um dos principais marcos históricos de São Paulo é a prova do pouco caso que se faz com a história e a cultura do País. Estamos falando do estado de abandono que se encontra o Marco Quilométrico da Vila Mariana. Localizado nas esquinas das ruas França Pinto com Domingo de Moraes.
Mesmo estando registrado no Conselho Municipal de Preservação do Patrimônio Histórico, Cultural e Ambiental da Cidade de São Paulo – Conpresp desde 2013 como peça importante da cidade, ele segue abandonado e não recebe a devida atenção do seu alto valor histórico para a cidade de São Paulo.
Os Marcos Quilométricos eram indicadores para as estradas municipais instituídos no município de São Paulo na gestão do Prefeito Washington Luís Pereira de Sousa (1914‐1919). Atualmente existem apenas quatro na cidade. O localizado na rua Silva Bueno, no Ipiranga, o da Vila Mariana situado na antiga Estrada no 4 (Estrada de Santo Amaro), atual Rua França Pinto, implantado em frente ao no 20, esquina com rua Domingos de Morais, o Marco de Limite entre São Paulo e Mairiporã, na antiga Estrada nº 1 (Estrada Velha do Juqueri); Marco de Limite entre São Paulo e o antigo Município de Santo Amaro, na antiga Estrada nº 5 (Estrada Pinheiros‐Taboão‐Osasco), hoje avenida Francisco Morato.
