Muralhas incas, roupas coloridas, vales sagrados, igrejas construídas sobre palácios, cidadelas perdidas nas alturas dos Andes, caminhos legendários, toda a beleza de um passado glorioso desenha-se ao redor do visitante que chega a Cusco: a cidade sagrada dos Incas e a capital arqueológica da América. O lugar é mesmo maravilhoso e remete o visitante a uma espécie de magia.
Desde 1911, ano em que o arqueólogo norte-americano Hiram Bingham descobrira para o mundo a cidadela de Machu Picchu, Cusco tem provocado a imaginação de milhares de turistas que se aventuram, cada ano, no milenar Caminho Inca.
Situada no sudeste do Vale de Huatanay, na região dos Andes, Cusco conta com uma população de mais de 420 mil habitantes. Considerada uma cidade de grande altitude (3400 metros acima do nível do mar), o nome do local significa “umbigo” no idioma Quíchua e era o mais importante centro administrativo e cultural do Império Inca. Lendas atribuem sua fundação ao inca Manco Capac no Século XI ou XII. As paredes de granito do palácio inca ainda estão lá, bem como vários monumentos, destacando-se o Templo do Sol.
Em 1532, o conquistador espanhol Francisco Pizarro invadiu e saqueou a cidade. A maioria dos edifícios incas foi arrasada e foram construídas inúmeras novas igrejas cristãs e demais edifícios administrativos dos dominadores, desta forma impondo sua pretensa superioridade europeia.
A maioria dos edifícios construídos depois da conquista é de influência espanhola com uma mistura de arquitetura inca, inclusive a igreja de Santa Clara e San Blas. Em algumas construções, foram justapostos edifícios espanhóis sobre as volumosas paredes de pedra construídas pelos incas.
Outros exemplos da arquitetura inca são: a fortaleza de Machu Picchu que se situa no final da Estrada Inca, a fortaleza Ollantaytambo, e a fortaleza de Sacsayhuaman que fica aproximadamente a dois quilômetros de Cusco. Esta fortaleza foi construída com grandes blocos de granito para proteger a cidade dos ataques dos invasores; Sacsayhuaman (em Quíchua, “falcão satisfeito”) está formada por três grandes terraços sobrepostos em forma de ziguezague e bordeadas por enormes muralhas de rocha de até 300 metros de extensão.
Passar pela Plaza de Armas é inevitável, e sua caminhada pelos principais pontos da cidade certamente cruzará a Plaza inúmeras vezes. San Blas é um pitoresco bairro de Cusco, que tem nas suas ruas estreitas e na arquitetura as suas principais atrações. Vá entrando nas ruas e ladeiras que chamarem a sua atenção.
O Mercado Central de San Pedro é o mais tradicional de Cusco. O mercado é essencialmente um lugar com muitas iguarias, comidas, bebidas e etc direcionados ao povo da cidade. É um lugar cheio de cores, excelente para fotos e o turista por lá é minoria.
Conheça o templo de Qorikancha, o mais importante do império Inca. Dedicado ao deus Sol, dizem que o templo tinha paredes e muros cobertos de ouro. Assim como fizeram na maioria dos templos Incas de Cusco, os espanhóis construíram uma igreja sobre o templo de Qorikancha. A sobreposição da arquitetura Inca e colonial é evidente e talvez esse seja o lugar que melhor ilustra esse contraste. Hoje em dia, além de possuir algumas ruinas da época Inca, funcionam no complexo a Igreja e o Convento de Santo Domingo.
As alpacas são uma atração à parte em Cusco, justamente com as roupas alegres e coloridas dos nativos. Merecem boas fotografias!
A área circunvizinha, situada no Vale de Huatanay, tem uma agricultura forte, com o cultivo de milho, cevada, quinoa, chá e café, além da mineração de ouro.
Cusco, porém, tem muitos outros atrativos que, sozinhos, seriam suficientes para atrair turistas.
Como já dissemos nos arredores da cidade se encontram uma série de circuitos – que, em sua maioria, incluem as imponentes ruínas de Sacsayhuaman ou de Tambomachay – nas quais o visitante pode realizar todo tipo de esportes de aventura e participar das mais espetaculares festividades religiosas do continente. Algumas destas celebrações – como as do “Qoyllur Rit´I”, que se realiza a 4.000 metros sobre o nível do mar, a “Procissão de Corpus Christi” ou o célebre “Inti Raym I”- contam-se entre as mais impressionantes de seu tipo no mundo.
Possuidora de uma trepidante vida noturna, Cusco é também uma cidade mágica, vertiginosa e excitante. Somando-se à riqueza arqueológica que se encontra quase em cada uma de suas ruas, faz da cidade sagrada dos incas o mais espetacular dos destinos do circuito turístico sul-americano.
