A minissérie “Chiquinha Gonzaga” foi dedicada à obra e vida da compositora carioca, de mesmo nome. Mãe e filha, Regina e Gabriela Duarte interpretaram a personagem principal em fases diferentes de sua história. A trama foi dirigida por Jayme Monjardim.
Criada por Lauro César Muniz, a produção retratava a vida de Chiquinha em paralelo ao surgimento da música popular brasileira. A história mostrou uma mulher revolucionária que desafiou os costumes da época por suas atitudes e se tornou uma das precursoras da música brasileira.

O elenco contava ainda com Marcelo Novaes, Carlos Alberto Riccelli, Danielle Winits, Norton Nascimento, Flavio Migliaccio, Suzana Vieira, Paulo Betti, Caio Blat e Milton Gonçalves, entre outros.
Originalmente a minissérie “Chiquinha Gonzaga” foi ao ar pela Rede Globo, de 12 de janeiro a 19 de março de 1999 e já foi reprisada duas vezes no Canal Viva.
A minissérie marcou a estreia de Caio Blat, na Rede Globo, como um jovem músico, também chamado João Batista, que se envolvia com Chiquinha Gonzaga. Um romance que deu o que falar, pela diferença de idade.
