Pelo 19º ano consecutivo milhares de pessoas saíram as ruas de Heliópolis em mais uma edição da Caminhada da Paz. Crianças, jovens e idosos levantaram cartazes reivindicando a garantia de direitos e cobrando a efetivação de políticas públicas e tomaram as vielas da comunidade na tarde de quinta-feira (8). “A morte é um resultado, a gente foi atacar as causas, e percebemos que a violência é a falta da educação, do emprego e de direitos”, disse Antonia Cleide, presidente da União de Núcleos, Associações e Sociedade de Moradores de Heliopolis e São João Clímaco (UNAS).
O público estimado de 10 mil pessoas teve moradores de diversos bairros da região, estudantes de cerca de 30 escolas públicas, professores, diretores, lideranças comunitárias e políticos estiveram no evento. “De acordo com o delegado do distrito local, depois que demos início a caminhada, o número de crimes na região caiu drasticamente. Não podemos parar”, destacou o professor Orlando da Silva.
O tema central é ‘Políticas Públicas + Consciência Comunitária = Sociedade Educadora’, mas contou com o subtema “A paz é de todos ou não é de ninguém”.
O cortejo saiu as 14h do CEU Arlete Persoli e, cerca de 600 metros adiante, juntou-se ao grupo que iniciou a marcha em frente ao número 58 da rua Coronel Silva Castro, na Cidade Nova Heliópolis. Os participantes carregavam faixas com palavras de ordem e também um girassol, símbolo do Movimento Sol da Paz. “algumas escolas organizaram coreografia e até mesmo um vestuário em protesto a violência.

A Caminha da Paz foi criada em 1999, em razão do assassinato de uma aluna da EEF (Escola Municipal de Ensino Fundamental) Presidente Campos Salles, no interior do CEU Arlete Persoli, que na época se chamava Centro de Convivência Educativa e Cultural de Heliópolis. Indignados com a violência, o diretor e professores da instituição procuraram por João Miranda, então presidente da UNAS. A conversa foi rápida e, dias depois, foi realizada a primeira marcha. Pouco mais de duas mil pessoas participaram do cortejo, mas a cada ano esse número aumenta. O percurso é de quatro quilômetros, passando por ruas e vielas da favela.
