“La Mentira” foi ao ar no México em 1998. No Brasil, com o nome traduzido para “A Mentira”, o dramalhão mexicano estrelado por Kate del Castillo, Guy Ecker e Karla Álvarez foi exibido pelo SBT em 100 capítulos, de 08 de maio a 03 de outubro de 2000. A trama contava a história de duas primas, Verônica (Kate del Castillo) e Virgínia (Karla Álvarez). Virgínia era má e ambiciosa, fingia ser uma menina boa e colocava a culpa em Verônica por suas maldades. Virgínia teve um caso com o irmão de Demétrio (Guy Ecker) apenas para roubar seu dinheiro. Quando ele compreende quem ela realmente é, comete suicídio. É aí, que Demétrio volta ao México para punir a mulher que causou a morte de seu irmão. Ele tem pistas que levam às duas primas, mas, por intrigas de Virgínia, acaba acreditando que a culpada de tudo é Verônica. Então ele começa a vingança casando-se com Verônica e fazendo de sua vida um verdadeiro inferno. Depois que ela ouve muitas histórias no povoado onde Demétrio a levou descobre que a mulher que fez a desgraça na vida do irmão de Demétrio é Virginia. Então Verônica elabora um plano para fazer Virginia confessar que é uma mulher má, mentirosa e ambiciosa. Foi este o principal enredo que norteou os capítulos de “A Mentira”. Na época de sua exibição, a novela até que fez relativo sucesso, garantindo ao SBT o segundo lugar na guerra da audiência. Para quem não sabe o galã Guy Ecker é nascido no Brasil e durante a exibição da novela veio ao País e participou de vários programas da emissora.
Apostando na audiência que “A Mentira” garantiu ao SBT, Silvio Santos autorizou no ano de 2010, um remake. A novela adaptada por Íris Abravanel foi ao ar batizada de “Corações Feridos” e teve como protagonistas, Patrícia Barros, Cynthia Falabella e Flávio Tolezani. O folhetim ficou engavetado até 2012, quando foi ao ar na faixa das 20h30. A audiência ficou abaixo do esperado e ao final, o folhetim foi substitído pelo remake de “Carrossel” que consegiu alavancar o Ibope do horário.
No ano de 2016, o SBT reprisou a trama em suas tardes, em 80 capítulos, conseguindo um razoável sucesso entre os fãs dos dramalhões mexicanos que acompanham a programação da emissora.
