A Estação Ipiranga foi inaugurada em abril de 1886, com o intuito de servir como estrutura de apoio ao projeto de implantação do Museu do Ipiranga, construído entre 1885 e 1890. A atividade foi feita por meio de “estacas-prancha”, que são elementos estruturais que compõem a fundação profunda, sendo posicionadas no solo por maquinários especializados. Isso possibilita a execução das estacas que sustentam a estrutura da estação e das vigas que formam a via elevada por onde circulam os trens.Com meta de conclusão em 2027, a estação Ipiranga terá dois acessos, sendo o principal na avenida Presidente Wilson, 3.437 e o secundário pela estação da Linha 10-Turquesa. Ao todo, a edificação terá 10,7 mil m 2 de área construída e contando com itens de acessibilidade, seis elevadores, 12 escadas rolantes, portas de plataforma e espaço para o estacionamento de bicicletas em paraciclos.
A estação foi projetada com recursos de tecnologia BIM – sigla em inglês para Modelagem da Informação da Construção -, que possibilita o desenvolvimento de um modelo 3D completo, unificando um conjunto de processos para uma construção, como nas frentes de obra civil, elétrica, hidráulica e sistemas auxiliares, facilitando o desenvolvimento e ampliando a assertividade na execução do projeto. Quando ela foi concluída, em nada vai lembrar a antiga estação de trem do Ipiranga.
Ampliação da Linha 15-Prata
Além da Ipiranga, que faz parte da expansão da Linha 15 à oeste, o Metrô está construindo mais duas estações, com obras já em andamento. O atual projeto de ampliação contempla mais 1,8 km e a estação Ipiranga na ponte oeste da linha, além de outros 2,7 km, 2 estações (Boa Esperança e Jacu Pêssego) e um pátio (Ragueb Chohfi) na ponta leste, depois de Jardim Colonial. Para atender o novo trecho, o Metrô também encomendou 19 novos trens – sendo que o primeiro já foi liberado na China (onde foi fabricado) e enviado ao Brasil -, aumentando a frota para 46 composições. Atualmente, a Linha 15-Prata tem 14,6 km e 11 estações entre Vila Prudente e Jardim Colonial, com ciclovia e paisagismo em toda essa extensão.
