Isso sem contar os mausoléus, como o da Lagoa das Múmias (descoberto em 1996); o de Sipán (descoberto em 1987), onde se vê o luxuoso enterro de um soberano mochica nas areias de Lambayeque e uma profusão de peças artísticas elaboradas em metais preciosos, e cujo descobrimento é comparado ao do túmulo de Tutankamon no Egito.
E não esqueçamos que o Peru tem também Machu Picchu, eleita pelos leitores da prestigiosa revista britânica “Wanderlust” como a “primeira das sete maravilhas da atualidade”, seguida pelos templos de Angkor (Camboja), o Taj Mahal (Índia), Petra (Jordânia), o Grand Canion (EUA), a Grande Muralha da China, e as Ilhas Galápagos (Equador). A lista total está conformada por 75 dos mais importantes sítios turísticos do mundo. A revista brasileira “Viagem e Turismo” outorgou à cidadela inca o segundo lugar na categoria ‘O Melhor no Ecoturismo’.
O turismo de aventura e o ecoturismo também são grandes atrações no Peru. A Cordilheira dos Andes, por exemplo, é a preferida dos que praticam trekking, andinismo e escalada de montanha. Mais de 12.000 lagoas, picos nevados que ultrapassam os 6.000 metros, os canyons mais profundos do mundo e seus alegres vales e povoados, reservam surpresas incomparáveis. Também sempre se encontra no Peru algum rio caudaloso onde praticar canoagem, belas sendas para pedalar em bicicleta e ventos que aguardam serem domados com asa delta e parapentes. As praias de Paracas e as da costa norte são ideais para os esportes náuticos, como o surfe, a pesca e o mergulho.
