É temporada de filhotes no Zoológico de São Paulo. Na estação reprodutiva, a Fundação registrou o nascimento da maior espécie de arara do mundo, a arara-azul-grande (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus). Duas ararinhas chegaram ao mundo nos dias 31 de janeiro e 4 de fevereiro pesando pouco mais de 20 gramas.
Os “nenéns” estão recebendo os cuidados da equipe técnica como, por exemplo, alimentação balanceada, limpeza, pesagem e controle da temperatura ambiente, condições necessárias para um desenvolvimento saudável, além de muito amor e carinho!
O macho “Diego” chegou adulto ao Zoo no ano de 2000 vindo de uma apreensão por órgãos ambientais. A fêmea “Megan” também chegou adulta ao Zoo, mas foi entregue pela Polícia Florestal.
Os pais de primeira viagem, “Diego e Megan” estão juntos desde 2012 e ainda não conseguiram criar nenhum filhote. O Zoo registrou diversas posturas da fêmea mas, pela inexperiência, sempre acabava quebrando os ovos ou então, não realizava a incubação adequadamente, abandonando o ninho.
Após anos de acompanhamento técnico, desta vez, a equipe avaliou que seria necessária a intervenção no ambiente, dois ovos foram retirados para incubação e criação artificial.
Este é um casal saudável, jovem e que apresenta uma importante linhagem genética para a conservação da espécie.
“Estamos confiantes de que o “Diego e a Megan” serão excelentes pais e conseguirão cuidar dos filhotes na próxima estação reprodutiva. Agora é questão de tempo”, afirmam os veterinários do Zoológico.
Há uma diferença de tamanho entre os filhotes. Acontece que existe um intervalo de 2 a 3 dias na postura de um ovo e outro, o que explica o fato dos filhotes nascerem em datas diferentes. Essa diferença entre os irmãos será mais evidente nos primeiros meses de vida, porém, a tendência é que se torne cada vez mais sutil, desaparecendo na fase adulta.
