A cidade de São Paulo completou 466 anos no sábado (25), mas quem ganhou o presente foi o Parque Independência. Foi inaugurada uma estátua de Dom Pedro I, próximo a Casa do Grito. A cerimônia contou com a presença do presidente da República em exercício, Hamilton Mourão. A estátua foi doada pela maçonaria da cidade, levando em consideração que D. Pedro I era maçon. O projeto da imagem é do arquiteto Hamilton L. Costa Jr. e a confecção, do escultor Luís Garcia Jorge.
“Feliz oportunidade de encontramos em São Paulo quando se comemoram os 466 anos da cidade para homenagear aquele que aqui neste local proclamou a independência do Brasil. É ocasião para nós brasileiros ainda hoje, em pleno século 21, refletirmos sobre o significado do 7 de setembro para nossa história”, disse Mourão.
Ele lembrou que foi no local onde está o Parque Independência que D. Pedro I soube de fatos que poderiam atrapalhar a autonomia do país, e que a guerra pela independência já acontecia desde junho anterior. “Foi aí que ele declarou que todas as tropas e navios enviadas ao Brasil sem seu consentimento seriam rechaçadas de armas na mão.”
Mourão falou à plateia que, antes de D. Pedro I declarar a independência, uma sucessão de atos foi dando forma à autonomia do Brasil, como a formação do primeiro ministério do país, a convocação de um conselho e procuradores gerais, eleitos pelas províncias, a determinação de que nenhuma lei vinda de Portugal seria cumprida sem consentimento do príncipe regente e a convocação de uma assembleia constituinte.
O presidente em exercício disse que depois de uma situação política insustentável, D. Pedro I pediu a união em busca da independência. Diante de constatação de que não havia interesse de Portugal em ceder, mas, sim, em colonizar o país. Foi, então, que D Pedro I declarou a independência e tornou a nação soberana, acrescentou.
“Aquele foi um dia de festa, assim como hoje, nesta brava, dinâmica e incansável São Paulo, que nasceu na fé do Colégio dos Jesuítas e foi forjada pela coragem dos Carvalhos, Buenos, Tibiriçás e outros homens e mulheres. Felizes somos nós cidadãos de um país que nasceu livre e desassombrado na procura de espaço e prosperidade, vocação cuja sínteses está plasmada nesta cidade. Viva São Paulo, viva o Brasil, saúde , força e união”, finalizou.
No fim do discurso o presidente participou do descerramento da estátua e seguiu para Brasília sem falar com a imprensa. Após a saída de Mourão o espaço foi aberto à população que aguardava ansiosamente para poder presenciar a estátua de perto.
Apaixonado pelo Ipiranga e presidente do Movimento Cívico em Defesa do Parque e Monumento à Independência, Valdir Abdallah não escondia o orgulho de participar de um momento tão especial para o bairro. “Estamos gratos a maçonaria por fazer uma homenagem importante a nossa história aqui no bairro. É muito mais que uma homenagem é reviver parte da história do Brasil. Nos resta agora zelar pelo Ipiranga porque é nítido que o bairro não dorme e agora temos mais uma parada obrigatória aqui no Ipiranga, a estátua de Dom Pedro”, finalizou.
