Os preparativos para as tradicionais comemorações do Dia de Santa Paulina, primeira santa brasileira, que morou por décadas no Ipiranga, comemorado dia 9 de julho, seguem a todo vapor. A festa acontece na Capela Sagrada Família e Santa Paulina, na avenida Nazaré, onde estão os seus restos mortais. Haverá missas em quatro horários: 8h, 10h, 13h e 17h. A festa também contará com barracas de salgados, doces e refrigerante.
Quem for até o local poderá conhecer um pouco mais da santa. Ao lado da capela, está localizado o Memorial, que narra, com riqueza de detalhes, a história da vida e missão de Santa Paulina, por meio de objetos da época. A participação na festa e a visita ao Memorial permitem uma conexão histórica e social também com a cidade de São Paulo.
Em 1909, deixando o cargo de Madre Superiora, Madre Paulina, foi trabalhar com os doentes da Santa Casa e os idosos do Asilo São Vicente de Paulo. A Congregação das Filhas da Imaculada passa então a ser chamada de Irmãzinhas da Imaculada Conceição. Durante nove anos viveu na casa em que fundou na cidade de Bragança Paulista. Retornando a Casa Geral, no Ipiranga, em 1918, para se dedicar à formação das jovens vocações da Congregação, função que exerceu por mais de vinte anos. Em 1938, devido à diabetes, Madre Paulina sofreu várias amputações e sua vista começou a enfraquecer, ficando quase cega. Após um agravamento em seu estado de saúde, no dia nove de julho de 1942, Madre Paulina já cega e paralisada, veio a falecer.
O exemplo de vida de Madre Paulina, sua fé e dedicação levaram vários fiéis a terem uma verdadeira veneração para com ela. Em 1988, o Papa João Paulo II outorgou a Madre Paulina o título de venerável, abrindo as portas para o futuro processo de beatificação e canonização. O primeiro milagre que lhe foi atribuído aconteceu em 1966, com a cura de uma mulher com hemorragia pós-parto, milagre reconhecido oficialmente apenas em 1989. Assim, em 19 de maio de 2002, em Roma, aconteceu a canonização de madre Paulina, considerada a primeira santa brasileira. Apesar de ter nascido na Itália, Madre Paulina passou 68 dos 76 anos de sua vida ajudando aos necessitados no Brasil, sendo 30 deles no Ipiranga. A capela de Santa Paulina fica na av. Nazaré, 470.
