Milhares de fiéis participaram da Festa de Santa Paulina, na segunda-feira (9), na Capela que leva o nome da santa na avenida Nazaré. A igreja ficou lotada durante todo o dia. Nem o frio impediu os devotos de homenagearem a santa que morou no Ipiranga.
Entre as cinco missas programadas, a celebração das 17h foi o ponto alto do dia. Presidida pelo arcebispo de São Paulo, Dom Odilo Scherer, e celebrada por padres da Região Episcopal Ipiranga, o ofício religioso foi assistido por cerca de mil pessoas, número superior à capacidade da igreja. O que não foi empecilho para quem queria agradecer a uma graça alcançada ou apenas tocar na santa. “Todos os que aqui estão vieram por amor e devoção à Santa Paulina, que é a protetora contra o mal do câncer”, disse a mariana Albuquerque que freqüenta a Capela há 10 anos.
Encontrar um espaço para encostar na imagem da santa era um trabalho árduo, principalmente para quem já tinha enfrentado horas de estrada para estar na igreja da santa. Ao final da celebração, Irmã Aparecida da Silva, representando Santa Paulina, entrou na igreja cantando o testemunho deixado pela Santa.
Santa Paulina foi a primeira santa brasileira, e morou 30 anos no Ipiranga. Em 1909, deixando o cargo de Madre Superiora, Madre Paulina, foi trabalhar com os doentes da Santa Casa e os idosos do Asilo São Vicente de Paulo.
