O Museu de Zoologia do Ipiranga recebeu no mês passado, do Ibama, um cocar indígena confeccionado com penas de araras apreendido pelos fiscais do instituto. A peça foi interceptada em operação dos Correios cujo destino era Estocolmo, na Suécia. Montado com 105 penas de araras — 104 de arara‑vermelha‑grande (Ara chloropterus) e uma de cauda de arara‑vermelha (Ara macao) —, o cocar constitui valioso exemplar de etnobiologia e alerta para o tráfico ilegal de espécies protegidas.
Ambas as aves são listadas na Convenção sobre o Comércio Internacional das Espécies da Flora e Fauna Selvagens em Perigo de Extinção e têm sua coleta e exportação proibidas sem licença.
A incorporação ao acervo do Museu de Zoologia permitirá estudos biomoleculares que identifiquem a procedência das penas e aprofundem o entendimento sobre o uso desses recursos na cultura indígena. A peça será inicialmente submetida a inventário etnobiológico e, em seguida, permanecerá em exibição temporária na galeria de etnologia, acompanhada de material educativo sobre legislação ambiental e direitos indígenas. Posteriormente, integra‑rá o conjunto permanente, acessível para pesquisas acadêmicas.
