Os moradores da Rua Ribeiro Lacerda tinham uma demanda antiga: melhorar a iluminação do local. A rua possuía um sistema que era antigo, com luminárias (modelo SP4), seguras por cabos, que foram ordenadas de forma a clarear o meio da faixa viária, de acordo com o antigo conceito de se iluminar a via para o carro e não para o pedestre. Os moradores reclamavam que o local era escuro, quando anoitecia, e tinham receio de caminhar por ali sozinhos pois as calçadas eram mal iluminadas.
A área passou por uma readequação e ganhou iluminação nova. O Departamento de Iluminação Pública- ILUME,substituiu cada luminária por duas, e em vez de 36 lâmpadas agora são 73, instaladas em braços nos 73 postes que ficam na altura lateral da via, o que trouxe iluminação às calçadas do local.
Wanderley Soares, mora no via há anos e acompanha de perto o problema com a falta de iluminação enfrentada pelos moradores. “Há anos pedimos uma troca de lâmpadas e nunca acontecia. Presenciei vários roubos devido à iluminação precária do local. Agora sim o espaço ficou bacana”, disse Soares.
A melhoria na segurança também foi o objetivo da mudança na iluminação da Praça Flávio Xavier de Toledo, ali no mesmo bairro. Com postes altos (7,5 m) e arborização, havia pontos escuros, e foi feita a iluminação do acesso e caminhos internos da praça, que além dos 21 postes ganhou mais 15 (altura de 5 metros) e iluminação pedonal (para pedestre) com lâmpadas mais potentes.
