O espetáculo Escute as feras apresenta uma livre adaptação do livro homônimo da antropóloga francesa Nastassja Martin – publicado na França em 2019 e no Brasil em 2021 pela Editora 34.
Na obra, a autora tem seu rosto desfigurado por um urso pardo em um encontro inesperado na região de Kamchatka, na Sibéria, experimenta transformações físicas e espirituais e se vê às voltas com questões filosóficas sobre as relações entre a humanidade e a natureza. Sonhos, delírios provocados por intervenções médicas e memórias em meio aos vulcões: é preciso acreditar nas feras.
A adaptação teatral se concentra nos principais pontos de contato entre essa história e a realidade brasileira, entre essa mulher e todas as mulheres. A versão final, descarnada, se descola do realismo da obra e procura criar um microclima de sonho e estímulo dos sentidos.
Maria Manoella então dá voz à narradora acompanhada do músico Lúcio Maia, que executa a trilha ao vivo como uma extensão dramatúrgica, criando não só música, mas ambiências sonoras. Daniela Thomas e Caetano Vilela colaboram na ambientação deste não-lugar onde a protagonista se encontra, Fabio Namatame e Vivien Buckup na expressividade e hibridação desta mulher-animal e a escritora Ana Paula Pacheco contribui na adaptação teatral ao lado de Fernanda Diamant e Mika Lins – que também co-dirigem o espetáculo.
