São Paulo ganhou neste sábado (25) a maior catedral budista da América Latina: a Catedral Budista Nikkyoji, inaugurada no tradicional bairro do Ipiranga. O evento reuniu mais de 1.500 pessoas e contou com a presença histórica do Papa Budista Kimura Nitigaku Shounin, líder espiritual do Budismo Primordial (Honmon Butsuryu Shu), vindo do Japão. Com 8 mil m² de área construída em um terreno de 5 mil m², o novo templo simboliza décadas de dedicação da comunidade budista e reforça os laços entre Brasil e Japão. A estrutura possui dois edifícios, alojamento, auditório, salões e ambientes especialmente preparados para atividades religiosas, culturais e educacionais.
O espaço, moderno e acolhedor, é voltado tanto aos praticantes quanto ao público em geral, promovendo a espiritualidade, o aprendizado e a convivência. A visita do Sumo Pontífice, que veio acompanhado de uma comitiva japonesa como parte das comemorações dos 130 anos de relações diplomáticas entre os dois países, marcou a inauguração como um marco espiritual e cultural.
A nova sede homenageia também a história da imigração japonesa no Brasil e realiza o sonho do padroeiro da religião no país, Ibaragui Nissui, que chegou em 1908. A Catedral Budista Nikkyoji fi ca na Rua Vicente da Costa, 211, e está aberta à visitação pública dia riamente, das 6h às 19h. Os cul tos são realizados de segunda a sábado às 6h, aos domingos e feriados às 8h, e às segundas, quartas e sextas-feiras também às 19h (exceto feriados).
