Abandonada pelo poder público como tantas outras praças na cidade, a praça Mokiti Okada, na Vila Mariana, passou a ser, também, um problema social depois que a Igreja Messiânica doi Brasil decidiu adotar a praça e, apoiada por seus seguidores, reurbanizar o local.
A praça fica ao lado da Igreja Messiânica e seu nome é em homenagem ao fundador da religião messiânica. Mokiti Okada nasceu no Japão em 1882 e é um dos percussores da agricultura natural. Talvez isso explique a preocupação dos seguidores na reurbanização da praça.
Até a Igreja solicitar à Subprefeitura de Vila Mariana, a adoção da praça, ela estava com o mato alto e grande parte era de terra batida. Foi exatamente nessa parte de terra batida que o casal Marcelo de Souza, 48, e Maria de Souza, 53, moradores até o final do ano passado na Zona Leste, resolveram transformar em seu lar, pois haviam sido despejados da casa onde pagavam aluguel. Ai começou o problema
Maria se declara apaixonada por Marcelo. O casal tem dois filhos, Claudio, 11 e José, 7. Há dois anos, no entanto os filhos estão morando com os avós, um em Guarulhos e outro na Zona Leste. Maria, no entanto, diz que a separação dos filhos e a vida como moradora de rua foi motivada pela pandemia da covid-19 e pelas drogas. A perda de emprego pelo marido foi determinante, segundo ela. “Ele não conseguia arrumar emprego, entrou em depressão e acabou se envolvendo com más companhia, e rapidamente virou dependente de drogas”, diz.
Despejada da casa onde morava, o casal passou a mora na rua e acabaram na praça Mokiti Okada. Em pouco tempo já estavam acompanhados por 15 cachorros. A praça, já “adotada” pelos membros da Igreja Missionária, passou a ser reivindicada pelos seus seguidores. “A pressão é muito grade. Chegaram aqui com o pessoal da prefeitura e castraram meus cachorros. Agora estão exigindo que eu saia, mas tem muita gente que tem dó da gente e dos meus cachorros. Ainda hoje uma mulher (sábado dia 7) chegou aqui e deu dois sacos de ração para meus cachorros”, diz Maria de Souza. Ela acrescenta que que não gosta de morar na rua e espera sair dessa situação mas precisa de um lugar onde morar, “só assim posso recuperar meus filhos”, diz.
Enquanto não consegue um lugar para morar, um emprego e não são despejados da praça Marcelo e Maria, são mais um número entre as mais de 30 mil pessoas que estão vivendo nas ruas de São Paulo depois de perderem o emprego e a casa por conta da pandemia do covid-19.
